Future-Proofing an Artist’s Practice

When Istanbul- and Santa Cruz–based artist Merve Ünsal approached me, she needed more than a portfolio—she needed a digital home that could reflect the breadth of her practice, spanning radio transmissions, sound, photography, video, performance, and site-specific installations. Having exhibited internationally and participated in residencies from London to Oslo, her work lives at the intersection of disciplines and geographies, yet her outdated website reduced her presence to a static showcase of artworks.

My solution was a minimalist, editorially inspired design built on Squarespace, with carefully chosen typography and a black–white–beige palette that foregrounds her work’s textures and emotions. Beyond artworks, the site now hosts Encounters (for events and workshops), Articles and Translations, and Broadcasts, ensuring her writings and radio projects are as accessible as her visual practice—without overshadowing it. Clean navigation, a balanced layout, and subtle typographic drama create a quiet yet intentional stage where her artistic voice remains the central focus.

To make the redesign sustainable, I future-proofed the site through a flexible content management system and provided hands-on guidance so Merve can confidently update and expand her website over time.
